Last Friday, (6th February) I had the pleasure of documenting the wedding of Ian and Shuping. I met them at the Usk Registry Office for their 2pm ceremony. The first thing I learned is that our UK traditional white is a funeral colour in China! Therefore, Chinese brides would not wear white! Just as in Indian culture, red is the colour of joy and celebration!
Shuping looked beautiful in her mandarin bridal gown from Shanghai. She was holding the most stunning bridal bouquet by The Bloom Room in Monmouth. It contained the very exotic-looking birds of paradise flowers (which I rarely see). The couple had enrolled the services of a lovely Chinese interpreter from Newport to assist with the wedding ceremony. It went really well and before we knew it, they were announced as husband and wife! Unfortunately, it had been raining all day so we headed directly to Oaklands Barn at Raglan Golf Club – where the rain continued!
The venue has recently been refurbished. It was the first time I had photographed there (this was in fact their first wedding!) I must say, I was really impressed. It’s a fabulous venue for smaller weddings. The rain did stop very briefly, and we braved the outdoors to get some photos with the newlyweds. Ian was a gentleman taking off his jacket and keeping his new bride warm!
It was an intimate wedding with very close family and friends and such a lovely afternoon. The wedding cake had been provided by Cakes Especially of Abergavenny. Canapés and drinks were served on arrival and later the most outstanding buffet of hot Chinese food. In all my years of photographing weddings, I’ve never had one with a Chinese wedding breakfast! I was delighted to be offered some – and the food was amazing! I left the happy couple at this point to enjoy the rest of their evening.
Ian and Shuping’s wedding at Oaklands Barn in Raglan Golf Club was a delight. Fabulous venue, amazing staff and delicious food! I wish the newlyweds every happiness for the future 🙂
