Abergavenny Wedding for Madeleine & Peter

I was delighted to document my first wedding of 2022 on Tuesday for Madeleine and Peter. This lovely couple from Croydon have actually been together for 40 years!  They have three grown-up sons and two grand-children.  Having booked a little break in Wales last week, they decided to end their holiday with a fabulous wedding!  After staying in Grosmont for a few days, this Abergavenny wedding for Madeleine and Peter was held at the beautiful Angel Hotel. The couple wanted a fun, colourful, non-traditional wedding party.

After days of rain, thankfully it was dry and sunny on Tuesday (but freezing!)  I met Peter and his family and friends as they arrived. He was soon called up to see the registrars.  Maddy then arrived in a beautiful mauve dress and matching coat.  The boys all wore specially made reversible waistcoats – plain one side and pattered the other.  Madeleine had made her own fresh bouquet and all the button-holes and ladies corsages. The ceremony was held up in the Brecon Room with Maddy and Peter walking in together and giggling like teenagers right through their ceremony! 🙂

Having been declared husband and wife, everyone headed back downstairs for drinks. We then braved the very chilly fresh air for some outdoor pics.  The ruins of the old Abergavenny Castle are just behind the rear of the hotel so we walked there for photos.  The stone of the old ruins plus the distant Sugarloaf mountain, made a lovely backdrop for Maddy and Peter’s photos.

On such a special day, Madeleine also took the opportunity to spread the last of her deceased brother’s ashes in the grounds of the castle. We were accompanied by the lovely Jo, the Angel Hotel’s wedding co-ordinator.  She was an absolute superstar holding people’s coats and being so helpful.  It was bitterly cold so she deserved a medal for hanging around waiting for us! We were all glad to get back to the warmth of the hotel!  Once the family had enjoyed their three-course meal, a surprise telegram and a lovely speech by new hubby Peter, I left them to enjoy the rest of their evening.

Maddy and Peter, I’m so delighted you are now officially husband and wife!  I wish you a long and happy marriage and hope you enjoy seeing a small selection of your photos below. Thank you for choosing me to document such a special occasion 🙂
